Bourbon County Youth Tackle Hunger

Hunger isn’t just a Third World problem. One in six people in America (one in four children) live in food insecure households. (source: United States Department of Agriculture) The youth of Bourbon County certainly did their fair share to 'tackle' the issue of hunger in our community.

Approximately 140 youth gathered Sunday night at the YMCA on Main Street to watch the Super Bowl, play games, eat and have fun. The cost of admission for this event was a non-perishable food item as part of a nation-wide program called "Souper Bowl of Caring" which works to inform the public of hunger in America and organize local efforts to meet the needs of families who live in food insecure homes. Our efforts were joined with many others across the United States to pull together an alarming $4.2 million dollars. All proceeds locally collected stay within the community each person serves.

The youth of Bourbon County gathered food for Operation Food Basket and their efforts netted 208 food items. In addition to the efforts of the youth, our church donated $142.97 to Operation Food Basket. Thank you all for giving so generously to those in need within our community.

Blessings,

Tracy
