Feets & Seats items delivered to the Hope Center

feets-and-seats-to-hope-center-2016Friday, October 21, 2016, members of First Christian Church joined forces with Paris Greyhound Football team members to deliver collected socks, underwear, thermal wear, hats and gloves to clients at the Hope Center in Lexington. In addition to delivering donated items, the youth and adults served homemade cookies and brownies to the men at the Jacob’s Hope Cafeteria.

The staff and recipients of these gifts were thrilled with the youth and their generosity. This project was born out of the compassionate heart of our own Jackson Livingood. Jackson is the son of Chris and Erin Livingood and the grandson of Paula and Ed Marcum. Jackson spends most Sundays working the video or sound equipment during worship, if you’d like to congratulate him on such wonderful representation of our church and its membership.

The Hope Center serves between 10,000-15,000 meals a month and provides emergency shelter to over 500 individuals per month. In addition to food and shelter, the center offers health and mental health care services, drug rehabilitation programs and clothing distribution. Most clients are in need of underwear and socks when they arrive, but these items are often in short supply because people tend to pass on their gently used clothing without realizing that undergarments are also needed.  Our efforts met a unique need for those who visit the Hope Center and the generosity of our members exceeded our expectations as usual!

We plan to visit the women’s shelter some time before Thanksgiving to deliver all the clothing items we collected and to volunteer our time there, as well. If you haven’t had an opportunity to donate, there is still time to bring in new women’s underwear and socks for our Feets & Seats program.

And, a HUGE thank you to everyone who donated cookies and brownies for the men’s evening meal. Everyone loaded up their pockets with delicious homemade treats to enjoy beyond the evening meal and there was enough left over to leave with the kitchen staff to share at the next meal served at Jacob’s Hope Cafeteria.

As always, it is an incredible pleasure to serve such a generous congregation!
Blessings,
Tracy
