Friday, March 14 ~ Knowing God’s Name

~~Psalm 91: 14-16
Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name. When they call to me, I will answer them; and I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them. With long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation.

~~Psalm 91 is a wonderful source of assurance for the believer. There is no need to fear even the most horrible threat because God is our refuge. Evil can’t even get near us, because God has ordered his angels to guard us wherever we go. If we stumble, they will catch us.
Bottom line, The Message translation states it so well, “If you’ll hold onto me for dear life,” says God, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party.”
How wonderful is the gracious promise of our God! But we need to get to know and trust God in order to be open to his marvelous grace.
When we need to fall back on the support and care of another, it always is best to turn to a familiar and trusted friend, whose promises we know are sure. If we know God’s name and share an intimate relationship with him, we can face any horrible possibility with confidence in his loving protection and care.
Eternal God, my loving Parent, help me to turn my eyes away from all that glitters around me and put my trust completely in you. When events and circumstances threaten, help me to call on your name, the only true source of safety and salvation. Amen.
