International Day of Peace

disciples-peace-fellowship-logoEach year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on the 21st of September. The theme for 2016 is “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace.” It aims to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. Sustainability addresses the fundamental needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Peace, meanwhile, reinforces the conditions for sustainable development and liberates the resources needed for societies to develop and prosper.

In 1935, at the International Convention of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Disciples Peace Fellowship began with 75 dedicated individuals, and is now one of the largest independent but integrally related organizations within the denomination. It is also the oldest existing Peace Fellowship of any denomination in the United States.

Disciples Peace Fellowship is dedicated to the Biblical principles of peace and justice, including the elimination of war. They serve as a voice to/for members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) who long for peace and justice to be at the forefront of our teachings and witness.

At a time such as this, it is important to remember that we are called to work for peace and justice in this broken and hurting world. What will you do to make our world a more peaceful and just place for every generation?

Blessings,
Tracy
