Operation Food Basket
Operation Food Basket is operated by in independent board of representatives from approximately 18 churches in Bourbon County. Food is distributed each day between 10:00 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. to those eligilble. The location of the food basket is in the basement of the City Building at 525 High Street in Paris. Food is given on an emergency basis, quarterly, to qualifying residents of Bourbon County. Volunteers from the churches staff the food basket on a regular basis. The Well is a ministry of the Bourbon County Ministerial Association which is comprised of some 20 churches. The location is in the annex of Zion Baptist Church on Eighth Street in Paris, where five volunteers meet on Thursdays from 11 a.m. till p.m. to receive those who request assistence with utility bills and rent. Clients are asked to answer several questions to determine whether they qualify for assistance. A person or household may receive help once a year. No money is kept on site. Checks are written by a separate treasurer and reviewed by a ministerial association representative. Support of The Well comes from churches, individuals, businesses and F.E.M.A. Checks may be dropped off at a member church or mailed to P.O. Box 605, Paris, Kentucky 40361.
The Clothing Closet has operated for over 20 years in the basement of the church. People from the church and the community bring clean, usable clothing which we sell for affordable prices. Jane Leer, Maxie Swinford, Mildred Baber, Dorothy Laycock and others have helped and continue to help size the clothing and display it for sale. The Clothing Closet is open on Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. Income from the sale of the clothing goes to other outreach ministries through the Disciple Women
