Stillness

Early morning in the hills
   and it was still.
So still, the birds
   hushed their singing.
Not one leaf twitched,
   no breeze stirred.
It was as if sound

There I stood
   in Wolfe County,
   at the base of a
      massive cliff,

As I watched shavings

Nothing did.
Perfect stillness.

to settle things down for  a while
   and give me peace.

I am grateful.
