The Church’s Mission

Missional ChurchJune 21-26, 2015 Middle School Youth will travel to the Heifer Ranch in Perryville, AR to learn about the incredible, global ministry of Heifer International and sustainable living. One aspect of our learning will be a night in the Global Village—one 24 hour period of time where we will live as someone in another country must live an entire lifetime. This opportunity provides a taste of what it’s like to struggle for our daily existence…which is a reality for the majority of our world’s population.

July 18-25, 2015 High School Youth will travel to Columbus, OH to attend General Assembly for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a 3 Day Inner-City Mission Experience along with Disciples youth from across the United States. These youth will have an opportunity to encounter and engage in the greater church dialogue which is a part of who we are as Disciples. They will witness the variety of congregations which make up the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and will see how our church polity seeks to aide our denomination in living into its mission to seek wholeness in a fragmented world.

The Youth Council has added the following parameters, which must be met by every youth desiring to participate in these mission experiences: attendance at 50% of all youth meetings, attendance at 50% of all local mission outreach opportunities, 50% participation in all fundraising activities, and modeling behavior which indicates being followers of Christ. The council is made up of the following church members: Jeff Bell, Cathy Caldwell, Hanson Cox, Amanda and Kirsten Hagen, Tracy Parker, Greg Smart, and Emily Thompson. If you have ideas or concerns about the youth or youth ministry, please share your thoughts with one or more of these individuals.

This past summer 6 High School Youth and 2 adults traveled to Moore, OK to aide in the rebuilding efforts following a devastating storm season in 2013. One High School youth, Haley Smart, joined youth from across the state to travel to Washington D.C. and New York City, visiting faith groups and worship spaces, learning from other faith groups ways we can work towards peace and justice in a world intent on war and strife. These individuals represented an extension of your hands and heart in this hurting world. You commissioned them to extend your Kingdom Work beyond the barriers of our walls and our community. The answered that call and now seek to share their experiences.

Join us on Sunday, September 28th, following worship as they present their travels and lessons learned in Moore, OK and CYF Seminar “Face to Face with Other Faiths.” A light lunch of sub sandwiches, chips, fruit and cookies or brownies will be served.
