Things were great all around!

rockheaderlogoMonday evening the youth gathered at The Rock for a fundraiser for their mission trip to Jamaica. The way this works, they wait tables, serve customers, clear and clean tables, offer refills, restock the drink counter, clean trays and just offer friendly service all around in exchange for the opportunity to collect tips from customers to put towards the mission trip. The Rock, because of the owners’ own deeply held faith and understanding of being Christian, offers 10% of their proceeds for the evening to these groups who participate in the fundraiser.  It is a wonderful opportunity to earn money for great causes and our community is truly blessed to have businesses who are willing to give so much to the efforts of others.
Our kids were courteous, hard-working and a joy to watch as they served not only members of our church who came out to support them, but also every customer who came by for food or treats that night. Our members, and there were many who came, enjoyed having an evening meal together, visiting with one another and supporting our youth. The atmosphere was nothing but friendliness and fellowship.
Nornie Adair came with her daughters and a few friends to have dinner together and celebrate Nornie’s 95th birthday. We all sang “Happy Birthday” to her, and customers who didn’t know her joined in on the festivities.
A birthday party was booked in the back room by a family who had no idea we were working a fundraiser that night. Some of our folks knew some members of the family, but our youth were just as attentive and helpful to this outside group as they were to our own members who dined at The Rock that night.
When the youth discovered the employees forfeited their tips on the nights of fundraisers so groups could collect more for their causes, they decided to donate 10% of their tips back to the employees. They didn’t feel it was right that these people who work so hard every day were going without their tips. Some members who were not able join us at The Rock donated money to the mission trip on Sunday. Another member was not able to come for dinner, so they gave a donation on Monday. Many, many others came out and had a good time with friends and tipped generously. We raised $738 all together and left $62 that night for the employees to split. (The youth weren’t aware the other donations were going to roll in at the time they left the 10%.)
At the board meeting, I praised the youth for all their wonderful efforts and their generous spirit. An elder of the church handed over another $65 to cover the tip the youth left for the employees.

I love it when the church is church!

Blessings,
Tracy
