Love was in the air…

love2

Their names were Debbie and Chris.

They just showed up on a Tuesday after lunch.

The carried a marriage license from the Bourbon County Clerk's office.

The question was, "Will you marry us today?"

They were both in their fifties, I guess.

I noticed on the license they both had been married twice.

But they were full of life and love.

The joy they shared was palpable.

Smiles were broad and frequent.

I listened for five minutes.

I said, "Come back at 4.  I will marry you."

Dianne and Tracy were the witnesses.

I found a short service in my computer and modified it for the occasion.

We gathered in the chapel, talking and laughing until it was time.

They both wore t-shirts and jeans.

As we moved through the service, they both began to cry softly.

Well, this led the rest of us to tear up. We laughed as we stopped the service to go get Kleenexes.

I even forgot to tell them they could kiss.

We stood there, maybe 10 minutes, but meeting them and standing with the  moved us and blessed us.

They were moved as well and blessed by our presence and our words.

I could have said, "No" for a dozen good reasons, but I didn't.

Sometimes it is just best to go with that serendipitous moment that lets the Spirit of God breathe and do its good work.

I love my job.

Moving to the deeper and joyful places,
Jeff
