Interim Minister

Rev. Nancy Jo Kemper

Rev. Kemper comes to us with over 55 years of experience in large and small congregations, including 2 prior interim ministries in Kentucky—at Erlanger Christian Church in Northern Kentucky in 2018, and at Bridgeport Christian Church in Frankfort in 2019. A native of Lexington with a log history in Kentucky and the Disciples of Christ, she was educated at Lafayette High School, Transylvania University, and Yale Divinity School. She was ordained at Woodland Christian Church in Lexington. After serving churches in New Haven, CT: Richmond, VA; Oak Park, IL; and St. Louis, Nancy Jo returned to Kentucky to be the Executive Director of the Kentucky Council of Churches for nearly 2 decades. Simultaneously, she served as pastor of New Union Christian Church until 2017, a tiny congregation in Woodford County for over 21 years. She has received many accolades over the years but the three she says she values most are an honorary doctor of human letters from Transylvania; the William Sloane Coffin Award for Peace and Justice from Yale Divinity School; and the very first L.L. Pinkerton Award from Midway University. Nancy Jo is the mother of two daughters, and three granddaughters, and she is owned now by a 2 year old four legged canine Charlie.
