Saturday, April 12 ~ More Than We Can Ask or Imagine

~~Ephesians 3:20-21
Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen

~~I always wanted to write a play and have it produced.  I have been in and out of the theatre world for almost twenty years.  I have written a few beginnings of a play, but I never finished one, let alone have one put on stage.  I had friends whom I trusted tell me, “You have a great ear for dialogue.”  Still, I didn’t have the wherewithal to finish it, let alone try to get it on stage.
If I ever did get the chance to write a play and have it produced, I always wanted to direct it myself.  Over the last twenty years, I have worked with some excellent people, and learned a lot about stage direction, and how to tease out good performances from actors.  In the theatre world, however, it is difficult to get an opportunity to direct a play if you have no experience.  There were a few times when I thought I might get the chance, but the time never seemed right.
If I ever did get the chance to write a play, and then direct it, I always hoped there would be talented actors to breathe life into the work.  I hoped that they would be fun to work with, of course.  More than that, I hoped they would understand their roles, and bring more to the parts than I ever imagined.
If I ever got the chance to write a play, and direct it, and get a talented cast to perform it, I always hoped there would be a large, warm, and receptive audience.  I hoped they would laugh at all the funny parts, and maybe cry at the sad ones.   They would relate to the story, and hopefully get lost in the play’s goings-on.
Thank you for giving me more than I could ask or imagine.
