A People of Revival????
Jeff and I had a wonderful opportunity yesterday to have lunch with Sonny Wray of Lexington Theological Seminary and to catch up with all the changes going on in the life of this institution. We also had an opportunity to share what was going on in each of our lives since we graduated from LTS. I shared with him that I would be the bringing the message to Bourbon County youth at tonight's Roaming Revival being held at Central Baptist Church. In the process of this conversation I made a comment that would bring me much thought in the following hours up until the creation of this article. I said, "I know 'revival' isn't exactly a Disciple-term, but I'm looking forward to participating in this event."
What on EARTH was I thinking???!!!!???? We are a people of a REVIVAL MOVEMENT! How could I so easily forget this? We, as a denomination, pride ourselves on being a "Movement for Wholeness in a Fragmented World." Maybe that movement needs to include REVIVAL. I know in my way of thinking that is true. In the days and weeks ahead I plan to re-explore our roots as Disciples of Christ to get a better understanding of the REVIVAL that started out on an isolated ridge in northern Bourbon County so long ago. I think I need to remember our roots in REVIVAL in order to help lead our denomination into a future of REVIVAL.
I invite the middle and high school youth to join me each week for the next four weeks to take part in the Bourbon County Roaming Revivals starting tonight at Central Baptist Church at 7 p.m. to see what amazing things God has in store for them as well as for us. I also invite the rest of you to join me in remembering our roots as a denomination beginning as a REVIVAL of people and living today as people REVIVED by the Spirit to do great things in the world.
Blessings,
Tracy
