Believe!
Read Luke 1:68-79
The text for Sunday’s sermon.
At first he did not understand.
Zechariah’s lack of understanding caused him to be silent for a time.
After all, the angel Gabriel came and told him he and Elizabeth would have a boy, long after such thoughts and possibilities had passed.
The silence was good for Zechariah.
Hold your tongue and listen and often new and powerful insights emerge.
Finally, he speaks, “Praise God,” he says with the full force of pent up joy.
“God likes us,” he continues.
“We know because he is sending a savior.”
This is BIG.
God brings an old covenant back to the awareness of the people.
Mercy. Grace. Forgiveness.
By whatever name you call it, God is the God of the new opportunity, lets us turn the corner, turn back move forward, however you see it, the news is GOOD.
Finally, he gets to John the Baptist, his yet-to-be born son.
“You child, will be called the prophet of the Most High.”
Dad is already busting his buttons over this radical child, soon-to-be prophet, who will come to tell about the “Most High.”
I don’t think he has any idea what is about to happen, but he is excited beyond description when God gets ready to act.|
How about you?
Moving to the deeper place,
Jeff
