Facebook Ministry
Things I have seen on Facebook lately:
…a radiant picture of Ed and Susan Williams at their 60th anniversary celebration, posted by Lynn Mayo, their daughter.
…a most precious photograph of Leon Florence holding his granddaughter, who is gently touching the nose of a dark brown horse leaning over a fence as if he is saying, “How nice this feels.”
…a picture of a friends twin daughters on their 21st birthdays looking at each other and laughing.
…a picture of a vast pumpkin farm.
…Sid Tate posting a heartwarming picture of his dad, George Sidney, and his mom Charlene, when they were maybe in their early twenties. George Sidney was wearing his military khakis and Charlene looks so happy to be with him.
…General Colin Powell giving a tribute to veterans.
…Cheryl Sievers posted a “remember” picture of the Lone Ranger and Tonto. (Hi O, Silver)
…A fellow pastor posted a powerful quote: “The illiterate of the twenty-first century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.” Alvin Toffler
This is to say, Facebook is a part of my ministry. While I try not to spend too much time scrolling through daily posts (they are endless) there is a lot to learn about folks and their families and the beauty they see in God’s world.
I watch grandchildren growing up in far flung places. I discover prayer requests. This morning I received an update on Jack Scherer, infant son of Rev. Steven and Katie Scherer, who had heart surgery in Columbus yesterday. Steven is the pastor of Central Baptist Church, next door.
The point is for us to use any tool we can to remain connected in meaningful ways to each other and to share the love of God and the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
Moving to the deeper places,
Jeff Bell
