God is good…
When he was born they said he might not live a year.
When he needed surgery they said, “Wait till he is older.”
When he had surgery they said, “He has a fifty-fifty chance.”
They called us early one morning from intensive care and said come quickly.
They said not to take him out when the temperature was below 50 or above 80.
They said, “Watch for infections, maybe keep him away from crowds.”
They said, “There will be things he will not be able to do.”
They said, “He will have trouble with athletics.”
We said, “We will do everything to keep him alive.”
We said, “Tell us where the best surgeon is.”
We came quickly that morning, and we talked, and sang and played him tapes of his sister reading to him – and he pulled through.
We eventually took him out when the temperature was below fifty and above eighty.
We couldn’t keep him away from crowds for long or no church or school.
We were realistic, but knew there was much he could do which only together we could make happen.
He played soccer and still plays basketball.
He said, “I will be a Highlands Bluebird.”
Everything pointed to him being a Campbell County Camel.
He became a Highland’s Bluebird.
He learned to read.
He developed a kind heart.
He is funny.
He has a job he calls his “dream job.”
He operates his own iPad and discusses the news with us intelligently.
Oh, how we love our 30 year old Chad.
Now, he is a deacon.
Imagine that.
God is good.
Moving to the deeper places,
A proud dad
