New Small Groups

small groupsYOGA

Our Yoga Class is off to a great start. We had 14 individuals join together to explore yoga as a spiritual discipline…DURING A UK BALLGAME!! The abilities of those who gathered varied greatly, but all were able to explore both the physical and spiritual benefits of stretching, balance, breath, centering and meditation. Getting used to the silences is difficult at first. Using this time for prayer is a great way to strengthen your connection to God and to remember those who are in need of prayer. The physical benefits of Yoga are another reason to join the class. Listening to our breath, becoming mindful of how our body moves when we breathe or balance, focusing on posture and lengthening each muscle forces you to be fully aware of where your body is in time and space. This is called proprioception. There is strong evidence of deterioration in proprioception with aging, which attributes to risks of fall and injury in the geriatric age group. Physical activities, such as Yoga, can help preserve proprioception and maybe even slow age-related decline. Yoga really is for everyone because it offers modifications for individuals of all strengths and abilities. We will continue to meet weekly on Tuesday evenings in Fellowship Hall, 7-8 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. Wear comfortable clothing and come ready to stretch, strengthen and renew body, mind and spirit.

 KNITTING

Katie Haag has offered to teach a day-time knitting class at the church if any are interested. This could grow into a prayer shawl ministry, a NICU baby blanket ministry, a Chemo Hat for children at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital ministry, lap blankets for nursing home residents…and many other options. All that is needed is #7 knitting needles (not the connected ones) and your time. We have a large amount of yarn that has been donated to the church. Please let us know if you are interested in giving this a try.

Blessings,
Tracy
