The First of “Only Two Questions a Pastor Should be Asking Right Now”
There is an article which I saved on my I-phone. I have done that maybe a handful of times. This one is particularly poignant and I want to share it with you. It is by Lawrence W. Wilson, a writer. The whole article is too long to include here. Here is a part of the article. The Only Two Questions a Pastor Should be Asking Right Now
The first question has to do with the character of Christians themselves. It is: How do I get people to imitate Jesus in daily life as opposed to giving intellectual assent to Christian ideas without exhibiting life transformation? And that is what most Christians do because that's what they have been taught. Evangelism, we believe, is getting people saved, which means leading them to make a one-time acknowledgement that Jesus is Lord. That's the goal and we're not that bad at it.
Holiness, we have come to believe, is something beyond salvation. It is leading people to be transformed, to think and behave as Jesus did. And that's really hard to do. Impossible, some say.
So most pastors, like most Christians, bypass this question entirely. Leading people to decide thatJesus is Lord — and hopefully, come to church — is as far as we go. Though we spend a good deal oftime and energy trying to rectify the behavior of people outside the church, we give precious little thought to transforming our own lives.
[This ends the first excerpt of this article. The second question will be addressed next week. The whole article will be available in the church office if you are interested in reading it. You may access this article electronically here.]
Moving to the deeper places,
