The Two Who Made My Day
She came into my office, bowed with the weight
of arthritis, moving slowly but persistently
both canes doing their work.
She could have been the one asking for help,
but rather, she came to tell me about
someone who lives two blocks from the
church who needs help.
But then she told me how she was helping them.
Sheets, towels, mattress, table, reduced rent,
many phone calls to check on the validity of
their story, talking with a church in another
town to work with them.
The couple was homeless, living in a car, but
attending church in another town. Through
God's leading in a newspaper ad, they
were brought together. And a blessing is
unfolding for the two in need and for the
one who is helping. We will attempt to help too.
Last night at 9:40, a phone call came
to the house. Another person was concerned
about a couple who both are suffering, struggling
along and need someone to talk to. There have
been surgeries and he can barely take care of her
because of his own trouble. They live two blocks
from the church in a different direction.
But this one, who has a lot on the plate already,
tries to check on them, bring a bit of cheer
and support and I am deeply moved.
Oh, it is not a perfect world, don't you know.
But here are two people who could make a
case for going home and sitting down and
giving in to infirmity and frustration, who
are still trying to live out their call to
discipleship among the people of God.
Glory be to God!
Moving to the deeper places,
