Truth
There are a lot of things being said in the public forum that just aren’t true or at least the more complicated and detailed explanations are not considered.
Will Rogers once said, “It isn’t what we don’t know that gives us trouble, it’s what we know that ain’t so.”
Now, you think I am going to list what I think “ain’t so.”
That is not true.
I will list some things to think about when considering discovering the truth.
- How much research have you done about the issue?
- Have you sought out opinions that don’t agree with your first knee jerk assessment of an issue?
- Have you considered all possible outcomes of a certain position on an issue?
- Can you agree on a small thing regarding the issue with someone who fundamentally differs from you on the whole issue?
- Do you take a certain position on an issue solely because it fits with others around you?
- Are you willing to acknowledge inconsistencies in every issue on which you take a stand?
- Are you willing to consider a stand which is more moderate than some take?
- Ask yourself, “what about this would I be willing to die for?”
- Think about each issue theologically. What would Jesus do or say, is an old question which is worth considering. But really try to get into the mind and heart of Jesus and let him get into your mind and heart about a given Issue. Would you be willing to preach a sermon from the pulpit and say what you believe as “gospel?”
Consider these things as we all search for the truth.
Moving to the deeper places,
Jeff
