Wakon' Da-Ho in the Spring!
A bad-weather day at Wakon' Da-Ho beats a good-weather day anywhere else! I've been known to say that for quite a few years now, but I have to admit I've never experienced 30-something degree temperatures with minimal heating in the cabins at Wakon' Da-Ho until this past weekend. Does this motto still hold true? YES!
What a wonderful time we all had! Eight youth, one parent and myself traveled to rural Casey County this past weekend for the annual Lumber Jack/Jane weekend at Camp Wakon' Da-Ho. Four of our youth and the one parent had never been to camp before. Overwhelming response has been that everyone wants to go back. Cold weather, threats of rain, busted waterlines in the girls' bathhouse, faulty heaters in several cabins, and responsibilities of home, work and school did not deter our trip nor did they impact our abilities to have a great time.
We spent the weekend beginning our days with morning watch, singing camp songs, playing camp games, and eating delicious food together. We spent the greater portion of our days making new friends, renewing old friendships, learning about one another, making camp improvements and getting everything ready for this summers' camping season. We ended each day with more good food, more singing, more games, songs AND games around the campfire and worshipping as one body in the great outdoors–God's beautiful creation.
What a blessing to have this wonderful place to retreat from the outside world and commune with the body of Christ in the midst of God's creation! We were all transformed by our time away. Thank you, First Christian Church, for supporting youth camp and conference ministries and thank you to all the parents who sent youth to this wonderful Spring event. I look forward to many more trips with our young ones to Wakon' Da-Ho throughout the upcoming summer camp season.
Blessings,
Tracy
