Wednesday, March 19 ~ Delight that leads to doing

~~I Samuel 19:1b; 20:4
But Saul’s son Jonathan took great delight in David.

Then Jonathan said to David, “Whatever you say, I will do for you.”

~~David was the son of Jesse and also known as the giant slayer.   He was married to King Saul’s daughter Micha, but the king had times of great emotional distress and anger when he realized the possible threat of David taking the leadership of the Hebrew nation.
King Saul plotted several times with his servants to kill David and part of the plot involved his son Jonathan.
Jonathan and David had great admiration and respect for each other.  They both proved themselves in battle, were strong in their faith and full of courage.  1 Samuel18:1 records that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David.  Jonathan saw, in his brother-in-law, David those qualities he valued and sought for himself.
Such respect and admiration reached far beyond a brother- in- law status.  Jonathan experienced a delight in doing whatever David asked of him.
In mankind, we are all brothers and sisters.  We may take great delight in doing for those for whom we have great admiration and respect.  Extending one’s self to those for which one has connection can be greatly rewarding.
