What do you do?

What do you do with someone who has nowhere to go?

Homeless. Alone. Unable to work. Unable to manage their own affairs satisfactorily.

Surely a power of attorney could help. But would they let them help.

Guardianship would be to much of a burden for the vast majority of people.

Then again, if you start managing a person’s life and controlling their finances, the day will come when they become very angry with you and accuse you of stealing their money.

What do you do when someone has nowhere to go and the Ministerial Association has done all they can do?

What do you do when someone has nowhere to go, has no I.D., has been diagnosed with a mental illness? What do you do?

Beyond being kind, offering some food, maybe a few dollars, some used clothing, the use of the church bathroom, what do you do?

When they decide they want to stick around because of the kindness of people, what do you do?

From Matthew 25, here is the stranger, the hungry, the thirsty, perhaps the prisoner, sometimes the sick, and when you have done what you think you could do, then what?

Do you send them away when they have found a bit of comfort, a place to sit, a tree to sleep under, a community who brings some food and people who will give a little cash?

What do you do?

We are dealing with these questions in a live situation as I write these words.

                                                                                    

The Prayer Gazebo

There were a bevy of Boy Scouts and their leaders working Monday night.

I went out to thank them for their work with Cameron and for the church.

I invited them to use the gazebo for scout meetings when meeting at the Catholic Church.

Concrete will be poured Saturday for the supporting piers and the sidewalk.

The gazebo may be delivered on the 27th if everything works together to allow this to happen.

Preparing the foundation and the sidewalk and doing all the necessary work to make the gazebo “fit,” will allow him to earn the coveted rank of Eagle in Scouting.

We are proud of this new venture which will bless the church and the community and we are equally proud of Cameron and all his hard work and planning which is making this possible.
