Jeff's Journal 2010 - 2018

Did you hear?

did you hear

Aren’t you amazed?

Will you celebrate with them?

The Bourbon County High School band won a state championship.

The Paris High School band finished in the final four for the first time.

The Bourbon County football team is undefeated and ranked 3rd.

The Paris High School football team has made the playoffs under Brian Washington’s leadership.

While I do not wish to emphasize that winning is everything (refer to recent sermon titled “Success”) I do want you to think about how hard these students worked and are working to achieve their goals.

Think of the dedication, the hours devoted to practicing, the teamwork, and the great example they set for their peers.

They will soon graduate and these accolades will be just good memories of days gone by.

But the Christian faith they will learn will lead and guide them through every joy, ethical dilemma and time of trial and despair for the rest of their lives.

What they bring to their bands and teams in terms of being people of faith, far more important than competitive victory.

You heard recently of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association ban on post game hand shakes, because it fights would break out.

Here is the thing for a Christian player. The Christian player should not need to be forced to be a good sport. They should find someone on their own to shake hands with. I have seen that less than sincere, post game high five too many times.

Support our kids in all their school endeavors, but remember we are teaching and shaping them to be the person God called them to be for a lifetime.

Moving to the deeper place,
Jeff
