Beginning the Lenten Season
Ash Wednesday is the formal beginning of the Lenten season. Worshippers will gather at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary on February 22 to begin forty days of emphasis on prayer, introspective meditation and service to the church and the world. Children will be invited to a worship center in the sanctuary where they will make clay bowls as a sign of receptivity to God's blessings in their lives. Ashes will be imposed on the forehead to remind us of our mortality and we will write confessions on paper, then burn them in a charcoal fire in the parking lot as we leave worship. Purple bags with a Lenten worship center inside and a devotional written by church members, will be given to anyone who attends.
