For the Lenten season

   we have prepared a worship center

   in a bag, complete with a devotional

      written by church members.

If you haven't received your purple

   bag, please take one on Sunday.

We hope this will encourage

   a discipline of devotion, prayer

   and meditation during Lent.

There is a cross, a candle, a brochure

   about Lent, Holy Week and Easter.

   Pretzels were created in the 7th century

   as a simple Lenten food. To remind

   his brother monks to pray, the pretzel

   was formed as arms folded over the chest

     in prayer.

The mints are a reminder to enjoy your life

   and to help others enjoy theirs.

These bags will remain as a gift for visitors

   and others who come our way. After the

   Lenten season we will change the brochures

   and the devotional and continue to provide

   these purple bags as a trademark gift from

   First Christian.

The total cost of the items in the bag are $1.37

   (not including printing and paper costs).

Our theme for the first Sunday of Lent is "mercy."

   Please meditate on how mercy works in your life.
