Communion of All God's People

I had an incredible experience in worship last Sunday. Rather, I have incredible experiences in worship each week, but this time I was moved to tears. I witnessed the glory of Communion in such a way it makes me sad that everyone has not been able to witness from my vantage point the gathering of God's people who come forward for the Lord's Supper each week.

As I sat in meditaion and prayer I overheard one of our adults explaining to a child what we were doing as everyone filed forward to receive the bread and juice. She imparted to this little one the traditions of the church, the theological meaning of the meal and the importance we, at First Christian, place on this sacred time together. She accomplished this all within a matter of minutes as they awaited their turn at the bread and cup.

And then it happened…I saw it first-hand! The body of Christ made visible to me in a moment. She took the bread, dipped it in the juice and placed it in his mouth and smiled and hugged him. This was not even her child! It was one of the most beautiful moments I can recall in all my years of ministry.

My prayer for you is that you, too, experience the body of Christ made visible to you in some way this week.

Shalom,
Tracy
