Jeff's Journal
The Kentucky Wildcats are in the Final Four.
So what does this have to do with the church?
Nothing, at least not directly.
So very often, I have church conflicts
which prevent me from watching
a game, live all the way through.
The work of the church
is far more important than a basketball game, to me.
Having said that, I have enjoyed this team.
They started young and grew up before our eyes.
Harrellson proved a person can change.
Knight makes shots he used to miss.
Miller has become bolder.
Liggins has learned to do what he does best.
Lamb has played through injury.
Jones' presence makes everyone better.
They have risen to challenges
and prevailed when some thought
they could not.
So, this is not really the place to throw
a party for the Cats.
Here is my motive/request.
I won't be going to the Final Four.
Even if I had tickets, I would not
go to the Final Four.
I do, however, have a lot of fun
watching this team.
The church is struggling a bit
to make budget.
I am going to give a gift of $100
over and above my pledge this week,
because of all the free entertainment
and inspiration this team has provided.
I challenge all of you who are fans
to do the same.
It puts into perspective the importance
of basketball to the kingdom of God.
Join me in making a meaningful gift
to the church in gratitude for
something which brings much
pleasure to so many in the
Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Grace and peace,
Jeff
