Leaps and bounds

leaps and bounds

Please read Acts 6:1-7

The church grew.

People came. They witnessed generosity, sacrifice from one another and love growing in very visible ways.

But with growth comes a need for servant leaders.

The apostle calling was to teach. If they were to begin working in the daily distribution of food, there would be less teaching. Teaching was most important.

Teaching was the rudder that would guide this ship called the church.

But the widows were being neglected in the daily distribution of food.

Then seven men of good standing were selected from among the people.

Here were the first deacons—so very important that they were called by name.

We will soon discover that Stephen was such a powerful witness that the elders and scribes had him seized and eventually stoned to death.

Why was this new found faith, this emerging church so threatening to the established order and religion?

We will ask that question in the Friendship Class Sunday. Come join us.

Moving to the deeper places,
