One of the best…
Fred died last Friday.
Yes, Fred.
Most all disciple ministers need no further description of who we are talking about.
His Biblical scholarship was deep and profound. His sermons were captivating.
They were so captivating that the “world” thought he was one of the best preachers who ever lived.
He was Dr. Fred Craddock, preacher and teacher of preachers. He came to First Christian twice during my tenure, although I had nothing to do with his coming.
Below is an astute summary of Fred’s message to us through all these years.
And so I pass on to you what was handed down to me that when Fred Craddock came to Saint Peter he told a whopper of a tale about a man, a son, a giant, a sound, a dog, a rhyme, a song, a silence, a word, a child.
With a stern look, Saint Peter asked him if his story was true.
“Grace,” Fred said, “Is always true.”
Rest in peace dear friend of God’s word and tender of the great mysteries of the kingdom of God.
Sadly but with great hope,
Jeff
