Grooming and fashion were secondary.
He ate bugs and stuck his hand in beehives for a taste of honey.
The wilderness was his church.
And they came – in droves to hear him and be baptized.
John was clear. It wasn’t about him. Jesus was the one of whom he spoke.
He had a low tolerance for fakes and pretenders. He called them poisonous snakes (but brood of vipers sounds darker.)
John would be all about Advent. He, pretty much, is Advent. The coming of the Savior requires preparation, repentance, confession, bearing good fruit and receiving the Holy Spirit. You thought it was all about ribbons and candy canes.
