Restoration 200
The spiritual movement which included the revival at Cane Ridge, produced three distinct church bodies.
In 1832, representatives of Alexander Campbell and Barton Stone, agreed to form one movement based in the restoration of New Testament Christianity.
The handshakes took place near what is now Martin Luther King and Main Streets. There is a marker noting that occasion.
The three movements that eventually came out of the Restoration Movement are the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Church of Christ and the independent Christian Church.
On Pentecost Sunday (this Sunday) there will be an event to bring back together these three church bodies in worship together.
The gathering will be outside the Robert Stephens Government Center at the corner of Main and Limestone in Lexington starting at 3 p.m.
You will need to bring your own chair. Preachers will preach and singers will sing. It should be a good day.
If you would like to ride the church van, please call the church office and make a reservation. If you are driving, parking will be at a premium, so arrive early.
I will be there. I hope you will choose to attend as well.
Moving to the deeper places,
Jeff
