Scholarship
Jesus told stories that even the simple could understand.
He taught using seed, soil, fruit, harvest, water, vines, shepherds, sheep, coins and more, for the understanding of the people.
But did you know that Jesus was a scholar? He was found in the Temple when he was about 12, learning about the Jewish faith from men who had studied for a lifetime.
He knew the Hebrew scripture so well he would quote it in the New Testament several times.
We embrace a faith which can be simple and understandable.
But faith can only be made “simple and understandable” through good scholarship and study.
You and I don’t have to be the scholar, but we do need to respect their good work for the kingdom of God.
I am so proud of our congregation for embracing both a simple faith and being unafraid to use scholarly sources which inform and enhance a simple faith.
Jesus was first a teacher/scholar then a Savior. Let us learn from our Savior/scholar.
Moving to the deeper places,
Jeff
