Taking the Vacation Bible School Challenge!

This year's Vacation Bible School will be another adventure for sure! We're creating our own!

We have our scripture texts, our ideas for decorating, our ideas for music, some ideas for games, some ideas for food, a few ideas for crafts and an openness for going where the Holy Spirit leads us! The only thing we still need will be YOU!

As you can imagine, Vacation Bible School is a huge undertaking and such a vital ministry opportunity for our church to reach out into our community to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to our friends and neighbors.

There is a great deal to be done to make this year's event a success. We want to make VBS bigger and better than last year (and wasn't the bar set pretty high with that one?). Won't you join us in our efforts to make VBS THE event of the year for First Christian Church? Here are a few new ideas working towards…

  • Kicking off our week with a big community meal/festival on Sunday June 10th
  • Offering van service for drop-offs and pick-ups
  • Offering an adult class at an earlier time so our volunteers can participate
  • Offer nursery care
  • Return to some of the old traditional children's Christian songs
  • Have more participation from the church body to show the community how much our church loves children and families

And here are a few ways you can help us reach out to the community with this incredible ministry opportunity…

  • Pray–for the kids whose lives we touch, for the families they return home to and for the volunteers that work with us every evening
  • Help fund our efforts to reach more people
  • Help promote our event throughout the community
    –write articles for the newspaper
    –distribute flyers throughout the community
–help design and place signage around the church and town
–place our flyer in your business for distribution
–refer someone you know to be on our mailing list so they will know to join us
–talk about our event on Facebook or twitter!
  • Provide food and help in the kitchen for evening meals
  • Volunteer to help set up our decorations and supplies for the event
  • Volunteer to help clean up each evening and after our event
  • Volunteer to lead an interest group
  • Take part in each evening's dramatic storytelling
  • Help our leaders with music, games, crafts, or small group sessions
  • Be our supply sergeant –each evening will require supplies for our various lessons, someone with gifts for organization would be great for this!
  • And I'm sure many, many other opportunities will present themselves.

Keep up with how we progress in the weeks and months ahead and be willing to step in to be a part of our community of faith's efforts to broaden our reach–to our neighbors, this community and to the ends of the earth.

Blessings,
Tracy
