The Jungle Adventure Begins!

Last night we celebrated our first evening of Vacation Bible School with our Big Jungle Adventure! Everyone entered our sanctuary, both members and visitors, amazed and awed by our Jungle sanctuary. The children felt the magic as they sat underneath our canopy and heard the sounds of the jungle surround them. It was truly an incredible kick-off to what promises to be a great week.

                But, it was more than that. One friend who had never been to church and was frightened by the prospect of mom not being close by for the evening took one look at our jungle, heard the sounds and was amazed enough to stay. The wonder that is VBS began at that point. This child witnessed the love of Jesus our faith offers through the adults, youth and new friends he encountered at Vacation Bible School. He began to warm up to everyone he encountered and took their hand to give them a tour of the jungle. You could see his transformation; he truly felt safe and loved by the people who gathered for our Big Jungle Adventure. This is why we do this.

                In speaking with a friend earlier this week and telling them about our plans for VBS and the incredible set we produced, with the vision and creativity brought to us by Jeff Miller, they asked if this was just a big recruitment tool. I paused for a moment and said unapologetically YES! This week is dedicated to sharing God’s love with all the children we encounter and transforming lives (theirs and ours) through Christ. This week is about living into our mission to Welcome All God’s People! This week is about bringing God’s people together to become a family of families!

                I can say with all satisfaction that we accomplished all these things and more in just one night. I look forward to a full week of living our faith with all you good people. Many thanks to all who have worked with me to make this possible!
