The world moves on…

The flu has come and gone. Now, I am just coughing uncontrollably.

If you have suffered with flu or upper respiratory illness I pray you are on the path to recovery.

We may be tempted to be so focused on getting better, that we overlook what else is going on in the world.

My dad would have been 95 on January the 5th had he lived.

My mother-in-law turned 92 and is still living alone, managing her own affairs, going to church each Sunday and driving short distances.

We experienced the longest stretch of single digit temperatures, (I think I heard this correctly) in the history of recorded weather.

Henry Hanna and the elders stepped in and took care of worship on Sunday. I am deeply grateful.

I was in touch with several members about church business and pastoral care issues by text and on Facebook. (In fact, I am finding out way too many pastoral care issues of our members and extended family members by the random chance that I discover it on Facebook). If you see a birth, an illness, an accident, a hospitalization on Facebook please call or text me to make sure I know about it and can respond.

We are working on hosting the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day service in our sanctuary.

This Sunday, we will welcome Karson Hagen and two of his fellow band members to open our worship with their music.

So many things happening.

Tomorrow, I will meet with two pastors to discuss a plan to open Operation Food Basket one night a week.

Our worship planning team for Ash Wednesday will meet Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

We are involving many of our guests and new members who are helping to plan and participate in worship.

We have contracted for Tully Williams to scrape and salt our lot before worship on Sunday. If you can get out of your house and to the car, please come to church. In any event, be safe.

Soon, I will experience the first anniversary of the death of my “brother” in every sense but blood, Jim Hazelrigg.  I am not looking forward to that day.

But just as Jim entered Hospice almost exactly a year ago this week, others I know are entering Hospice this week and tonight I learned of the untimely death of a young mother, whose extended family have been friends of mine for forty years. She was the mother of a 12 year old son, who was adopted from another country.

The world moves on, trembles and shudders, offers us hope, brings us to our knees and sends us soaring with the eagles.

Seek his blessings, they are there to be had, even on the worst of days.

Moving to the deeper places,
Jeff
