What are you hungry for?

hungry shark“He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty.” (Luke 1: 53)

How can we literally fill the hungry with good things? In what ways are people hungry today? Is hunger always for food? What other things might people hunger for? These are a few of the questions asked during our “Journey” study this past week. Our lesson fell on the heels of the horrible tragedy in Newtown, CT. Each person gathering for study and worship that day were mindful of the senseless loss the families of that community suffered, and during the Christmas season, no less; the time when we usually turn our sights toward the coming Christ Child.

Many questions have surfaced with regards to that event, mostly the question, “why?”. Some have taken on the issue of gun control, others are ready to blame inadequate diagnosis and treatment for the mentally unstable in our society. Still others look at violence in the media and video games. And there is even a contingency that rants at social media and cell phone usage as promoting civil disconnect in humanity. It is likely that no one issue here is the cause of such horror, but that a small bit of all these things, and more unnamed issues, were contributing factors.

This past weeks lesson looks at the loving relationship between Elizabeth and Mary and asks us, “who is the Elizabeth in your life?” and “is there a Mary to whom you mentor?”. We have  no way of knowing what would lead someone to do such unspeakable acts, to cause such horrific pain or to attack our most innocent of souls. We cannot ever know why. But what we can be sure of is that somewhere in the midst of the pain and suffering God will prevail. God will be made known to us all, in spite of the evil one individual commits.

Our Journey Class (not to be confused with the study) posed this thought in response to Hamilton’s question…”in our world, there are people who are spiritually hungry.” How do we fulfill that need? If this is what you are hungry for, where might you find sustenance?

It is my hope that you will come here, and be fed. Join us in our Journey towards Christ.

Blessings,
Tracy
